National Library Minsk-Belarus

The National Library of Belarus  is now located in a new 72-metre (236 feet) high building in Minsk, Belarus. The building has 22 floors and was completed in January 2006. The building can seat about 2,000 readers and features a 500-seat conference hall. Its main architectural component has the shape of a rhombicuboctahedron. The library’s new building was opened on 16 June 2006.

National Library Director Roman Motulskiy and Charge d'Affaires Scanlan at the opening of "Picturing America" exhibit
“Today we are opening another event highlighting excellent cultural diplomacy partnership between the Embassy of the United States of America and the National Library of Belarus,-“said CDA Michael Scanlan at the official opening of the “Picturing America” world travelling exhibition on March 10, 2011. Reproductions of the 40 masterpieces are open to the public at the “Panorama” art gallery of the National Library of Belarus from March 10-28.  The event showcases the artistic heritage of the U.S. and offers unique insights into the character, ideals, and aspirations of Americans. “I hope that the Picturing America exhibit will be a catalyst for the study of America - its cultural, politics, and history that together has woven our nation’s fabric over time of who we are – said Michael Scanlan at the opening, which included   the donation of an educational portfolio of exhibition images and a Teachers Resource Book to the Library.


National Library Director Roman Motulski expressed sincere gratitude to the U.S. Embassy for opportunity to learn about American history and culture through the Picturing America exhibition. He also acknowledged the Embassy’s role in facilitating book and information exchange between two countries, as well as the regular flow of events highlighting America from different perspectives that the Library’s and Embassy’s partnership has brought about. 


The Head of the Exhibition and Gallery Department of the National Library Fyodor Yastreb emphasized the artistic value of the “Picturing America” exhibits and America’s role in developing world artistic talents.
